In 2021, the German chlorides market increased by 3% to $X, rising for the fifth year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. In value terms, chlorides exports surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The Netherlands (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of chlorides exports from Germany, together accounting for 61% of total exports. In 2021, the average chlorides export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a slight contraction. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+13.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Germany
In 2021, approx. X tons of chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride) were imported into Germany; waning by -3.8% compared with the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then shrank slightly in the following year.
In value terms, chlorides imports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons) constituted the largest chlorides supplier to Germany, with a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, chlorides imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), fourfold. Belgium (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the Netherlands totaled +4.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+14.6% per year) and Belgium (+7.1% per year).
In value terms, the largest chlorides suppliers to Germany were France ($X), Belgium ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together accounting for 47% of total imports. India, China, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Austria, Finland and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.
Among the main suppliers, Sweden, with a CAGR of +11.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average chlorides import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 19% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a slight setback. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
