The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Italy (X tons), France (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main destinations of color printing ink exports from Germany, with a combined 29% share of total exports. Austria, Belgium, the UK, the Czech Republic, Spain, the Netherlands, Hungary, Turkey, Brazil and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 40%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Brazil (with a CAGR of +4.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, the largest markets for color printing ink exported from Germany were France ($X), Poland ($X) and Italy ($X), together comprising 25% of total exports. Austria, Belgium, the UK, the Netherlands, Spain, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Russia and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 39%.

Hungary, with a CAGR of +1.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average color printing ink export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 7.5% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 12%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of color printing ink decreased by -6.8% to X tons, falling for the fifth year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports recorded a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 26%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, color printing ink imports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a mild setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 113% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Switzerland (X tons) were the main suppliers of color printing ink imports to Germany, with a combined 51% share of total imports. Luxembourg, Belgium, France, Spain, Sweden, India, Japan, South Korea and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 45%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for South Korea (with a CAGR of +44.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Switzerland ($X) and Japan ($X) appeared to be the largest color printing ink suppliers to Germany, together accounting for 60% of total imports. Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, the UK, India, Spain, Sweden and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.

In terms of the main suppliers, South Korea, with a CAGR of +18.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average color printing ink import price amounted to $X per ton, approximately reflecting the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, posted a perceptible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 82% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the price for South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
