For the fourth consecutive year, the German concentrated orange juice market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -8.4% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a drastic downturn. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of concentrated orange juice increased by 34% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable decline. The exports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated orange juice exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a pronounced downturn. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Italy (X tons) was the main destination for concentrated orange juice exports from Germany, accounting for a 27% share of total exports. Moreover, concentrated orange juice exports to Italy exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the Czech Republic (X tons), with a 9.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Italy stood at +28.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (-17.2% per year) and the Czech Republic (+17.0% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the key foreign market for concentrated orange juice exports from Germany, comprising 31% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the UK ($X), with an 8.7% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with an 8.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Italy stood at +15.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+10.9% per year) and France (-16.3% per year).

The average concentrated orange juice export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, standing approx. at the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 17% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Concentrated orange juice imports into Germany fell to X tons in 2021, which is down by -13.6% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports showed a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 5.9%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated orange juice imports shrank slightly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 7.8% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons) constituted the largest concentrated orange juice supplier to Germany, with a 55% share of total imports. Moreover, concentrated orange juice imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tons), threefold. Brazil (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the Netherlands stood at +23.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+30.3% per year) and Brazil (-23.3% per year).

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest supplier of concentrated orange juice to Germany, comprising 58% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the Netherlands amounted to +18.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+26.4% per year) and Brazil (-25.0% per year).

The average concentrated orange juice import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 13% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the price for Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
