Totaliser Market Size in Germany

In 2021, the German totaliser market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, consumption, however, showed a deep reduction. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, totaliser production shrank to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, showed a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, overseas shipments of continuous and discontinuous totalisers decreased by -0.9% to X units, falling for the fourth year in a row after three years of growth. Overall, exports recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, totaliser exports reached $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 8.2%. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

China (X units), Italy (X units) and Spain (X units) were the main destinations of totaliser exports from Germany, together accounting for 25% of total exports. The UK, Russia, the Netherlands, Turkey, France, the United States, Austria, Belgium, Serbia and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 39%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Serbia (with a CAGR of +31.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), the United States ($X) and Italy ($X) were the largest markets for totaliser exported from Germany worldwide, together accounting for 30% of total exports. Spain, Turkey, the Netherlands, the UK, Russia, France, Serbia, Austria, Belgium and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.

Among the main countries of destination, Serbia, with a CAGR of +27.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average totaliser export price amounted to $X per unit, increasing by 5.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a mild downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 8.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Brazil ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2021, purchases abroad of continuous and discontinuous totalisers decreased by -25.2% to X units, falling for the second consecutive year after six years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 62% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, totaliser imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Canada (X units) constituted the largest supplier of totaliser to Germany, accounting for a 59% share of total imports. Moreover, totaliser imports from Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Czech Republic (X units), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Portugal (X units), with a 6.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Canada amounted to +29.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Czech Republic (+16.1% per year) and Portugal (+55.1% per year).

In value terms, the largest totaliser suppliers to Germany were the Czech Republic ($X), Canada ($X) and Austria ($X), together comprising 67% of total imports. These countries were followed by Denmark, Turkey, Switzerland and Portugal, which together accounted for a further 16%.

Portugal, with a CAGR of +24.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average totaliser import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 86% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a drastic downturn. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per unit), while the price for Portugal ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (-5.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
