In 2022, the German crude coconut oil market increased by 29% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, consumption recorded a modest expansion. Crude coconut oil consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Over the period under review, total exports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -16.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 109% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, crude coconut oil exports dropped notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 126% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Poland (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of crude coconut oil exports from Germany, with a combined 46% share of total exports. Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Italy, Denmark, Hungary, Romania, Spain and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 47%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +45.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average crude coconut oil export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -21% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, crude coconut oil export price decreased by -33.2% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average export price increased by 28%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Germany

Crude coconut oil imports into Germany skyrocketed to X tons in 2022, surging by 16% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 136%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, crude coconut oil imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a pronounced increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 98% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2022, the Philippines (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of crude coconut oil to Germany, with a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, crude coconut oil imports from the Philippines exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Indonesia (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Netherlands (X tons), with a 5.2% share.
