After three years of growth, the German crude maize oil market decreased by -1.4% to $X in 2022. In general, consumption, however, showed a resilient increase. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

In general, imports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 252% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, crude maize oil imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 150%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Austria (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of crude maize oil to Germany, with a 55% share of total imports. Moreover, crude maize oil imports from Austria exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X tons), threefold. The Netherlands (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 16% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Austria amounted to +96.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+1.5% per year) and the Netherlands (+36.0% per year).
