Imports into Germany
In 2022, purchases abroad of crude sunflower-seed and safflower oil decreased by -13% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after four years of growth. Overall, imports, however, recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 40%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, crude sunflower-seed and safflower oil imports rose sharply to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 45%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Hungary (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of crude sunflower-seed and safflower oil imports to Germany, with a combined 79% share of total imports. France, Bulgaria, Austria, the Czech Republic and Argentina lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +30.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
