Over the period under review, total exports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
China (X units) was the main destination for automotive lighting exports from Germany, accounting for a 43% share of total exports. Moreover, automotive lighting exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X units), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Slovakia (X units), with a 4.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to China totaled +13.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+3.0% per year) and Slovakia (+3.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average automotive lighting export price amounted to $X per unit, growing by 29% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. In 2021, overseas purchases of automotive lighting increased by 23% to X units, rising for the fifth consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +90.0% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, automotive lighting imports reached $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, the Czech Republic (X units) constituted the largest supplier of automotive lighting to Germany, accounting for a 27% share of total imports. Moreover, automotive lighting imports from the Czech Republic exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X units), twofold. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 14%. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Slovenia ($X per unit) and Romania ($X per unit), while the price for Slovakia ($X per unit) and South Korea ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.
