For the fourth consecutive year, Germany recorded decline in overseas purchases of ferro-cerium and pyrophoric alloys, which decreased by -5% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a perceptible decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 31%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, ferro-cerium and pyrophoric alloys imports stood at $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

The UK (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Austria (X tons) were the main suppliers of ferro-cerium and pyrophoric alloys imports to Germany, with a combined 68% share of total imports. Poland, Ukraine, Russia, North Macedonia, China, Turkey and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Ukraine (with a CAGR of +144.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest ferro-cerium and pyrophoric alloys suppliers to Germany were Austria ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and the UK ($X), with a combined 62% share of total imports. Poland, Ukraine, China, the United States, Russia, North Macedonia and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.
