Estonia (X tons), Portugal (X tons) and Denmark (X tons) were the main destinations of fish parts exports from Germany, with a combined 60% share of total exports. Spain, Moldova, the Netherlands, Latvia and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Latvia (with a CAGR of +161.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Spain ($X), Portugal ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for fish parts exported from Germany worldwide, together comprising 67% of total exports. Austria, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia and Moldova lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.

The average fish parts export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 18% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 78%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Estonia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (+11.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Germany
In 2022, supplies from abroad of fish heads, tails and maws increased by 1.9% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a sharp decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 66%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, fish parts imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a sharp reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 62% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Norway (X tons) constituted the largest fish parts supplier to Germany, with a 45% share of total imports. Moreover, fish parts imports from Norway exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Iceland (X tons), with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Norway amounted to -4.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+4.2% per year) and Iceland (+4.7% per year).
In value terms, Norway ($X) constituted the largest supplier of fish heads, tails and maws to Germany, comprising 43% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Iceland ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Denmark, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Norway totaled -3.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Iceland (+16.6% per year) and Denmark (-16.6% per year).

In 2022, the average fish parts import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 16% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average import price increased by 54% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
