The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 65%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Poland (X tons), Austria (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of imitation jewellery exports from Germany, with a combined 56% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, the UK, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Portugal, which together accounted for a further 34%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +17.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X) remains the key foreign market for imitation jewellery exports from Germany, comprising 31% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Austria, with a 9.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to France stood at +24.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+25.2% per year) and Austria (+7.5% per year).

In 2021, the average imitation jewellery export price amounted to $X per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 36% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then declined slightly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, the amount of imitation jewelry imported into Germany fell to X tons, with a decrease of -5.3% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, imitation jewellery imports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a pronounced curtailment. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of imitation jewellery to Germany, accounting for a 64% share of total imports. Moreover, imitation jewellery imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), tenfold. Poland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at -11.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+4.3% per year) and Poland (+61.7% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of imitation jewellery to Germany, comprising 40% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with a 9.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China stood at -7.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+16.1% per year) and Poland (+89.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average imitation jewellery import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 14% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imitation jewellery import price increased by +72.9% against 2012 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
