In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the German industrial robot market, when its value decreased by -57.8% to $X. Overall, consumption saw a noticeable decrease. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, industrial robot production expanded significantly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Industrial robot exports from Germany totaled X units in 2021, growing by 14% compared with 2020 figures. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, industrial robot exports soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
China (X units) was the main destination for industrial robot exports from Germany, with a 26% share of total exports. Moreover, industrial robot exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X units), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Turkey (X units), with a 9.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to China totaled +2.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+0.1% per year) and Turkey (+17.0% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X), China ($X) and Italy ($X) were the largest markets for industrial robot exported from Germany worldwide, with a combined 36% share of total exports. Austria, Spain, Turkey, Switzerland, Poland, France, South Korea, the Czech Republic, the UK and India lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 39%.
Turkey, with a CAGR of +17.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average industrial robot export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 17%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Germany
In 2021, purchases abroad of industrial robots for multiple uses was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, industrial robot imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a slight expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Sweden (X units) constituted the largest supplier of industrial robot to Germany, accounting for a 46% share of total imports. Moreover, industrial robot imports from Sweden exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (X units), fourfold. Austria (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Sweden totaled +4.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Japan (-14.0% per year) and Austria (-3.3% per year).
In value terms, Sweden ($X), France ($X) and Japan ($X) constituted the largest industrial robot suppliers to Germany, with a combined 42% share of total imports. Austria, the Netherlands, China, Italy, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Croatia and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 40%.
Slovenia, with a CAGR of +276.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average industrial robot import price amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 2.8% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 20% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2020 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while the price for Croatia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+10.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
