In general, total exports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +112.9% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 50%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Switzerland (X cubic meters), France (X cubic meters) and Austria (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of insulating board exports from Germany, together comprising 73% of total exports. Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands and Luxembourg lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Luxembourg (with a CAGR of +15.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Switzerland ($X), France ($X) and Austria ($X) constituted the largest markets for insulating board exported from Germany worldwide, with a combined 70% share of total exports. Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.
Luxembourg, with a CAGR of +14.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average insulating board export price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2022, surging by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a slight setback. The export price peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Germany
After seven years of growth, supplies from abroad of insulating board decreased by -11.8% to X cubic meters in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a notable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X cubic meters in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, insulating board imports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 30%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Poland (X cubic meters) constituted the largest supplier of insulating board to Germany, with a 73% share of total imports. Moreover, insulating board imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X cubic meters), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Sweden (X cubic meters), with a 2.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Poland amounted to +8.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+34.9% per year) and Sweden (+116.5% per year).
In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of insulating board to Germany, comprising 76% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Sweden, with a 2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Poland stood at +11.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+35.9% per year) and Sweden (+99.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average insulating board import price amounted to $X per cubic meter, increasing by 7.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 12%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per cubic meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
