Iron oxide pigment exports from Germany declined modestly to X tons in 2019, shrinking by -3.4% against 2018 figures. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2019; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 9.7% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2019, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, iron oxide pigment exports totaled $X in 2019. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 9.3%. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2019, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The United States (X tons) was the main destination for iron oxide pigment exports from Germany, with a 26% share of total exports. Moreover, iron oxide pigment exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (X tons), threefold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.6% share.

As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, iron oxide pigment imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

China (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Brazil (X tons) were the main suppliers of iron oxide pigment imports to Germany, together comprising 54% of total imports. Italy, Austria, Norway, Sweden, Spain, France, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 38%.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 68% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
