In value terms, lift, elevator, stairway and dragline exports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, exports recorded a perceptible slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 16% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Switzerland (X units), the UK (X units) and France (X units) were the main destinations of lift, elevator, stairway and dragline exports from Germany, together comprising 36% of total exports. Russia, the United States, China, the Netherlands, Austria, Turkey, Belgium, Saudi Arabia, Poland and Denmark lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 34%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the United States (with a CAGR of +12.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for lifts, elevators, moving stairways and draglines stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 37% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, purchases abroad of lifts, elevators, moving stairways and draglines decreased by -11.3% to X units, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, imports, however, posted a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 41%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, lift, elevator, stairway and dragline imports amounted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The average import price for lifts, elevators, moving stairways and draglines stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a pronounced slump. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while the price for Greece ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
