The United States (X tons), the UK (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the main destinations of perfume exports from Germany, with a combined 26% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +29.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for perfume exported from Germany were the Czech Republic ($X), Spain ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together comprising 21% of total exports. The UK, Austria, Poland, the United States, France, Singapore, China, Belgium, the United Arab Emirates and Australia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.

In 2022, the average perfume export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Australia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of perfumes and toilet waters was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, recorded a perceptible decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 13%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, perfume imports reached $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
France (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of perfume imports to Germany, together comprising 72% of total imports. Italy, the Netherlands, the UK, Turkey, the United States, Switzerland, China and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +9.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X) constituted the largest supplier of perfumes and toilet waters to Germany, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from France was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+14.3% per year) and Italy (+4.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average perfume import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 2.2% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, perfume import price increased by +80.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 33%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
