Plastic Reservoir Market Size in Germany

In 2022, the German plastic reservoir market increased by 28% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, plastic reservoir exports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate noticeable growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 50%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports by Country

Belgium (X tons), France (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of plastic reservoir exports from Germany, together comprising 38% of total exports. Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Poland, the UK, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Italy, the United Arab Emirates and Canada lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 45%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Canada (with a CAGR of +50.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for plastic reservoir exported from Germany were Belgium ($X), France ($X) and Austria ($X), together comprising 34% of total exports. Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Poland, the UK, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Italy, the United Arab Emirates and Canada lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 44%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Canada, with a CAGR of +46.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average plastic reservoir export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average export price increased by 8.7%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Germany

In 2022, purchases abroad of plastic reservoirs, tanks and vats decreased by -16% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plastic reservoir imports reduced dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

In 2022, France (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of plastic reservoir to Germany, accounting for a 42% share of total imports. Moreover, plastic reservoir imports from France exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Poland (X tons), with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from France amounted to +1.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+2.1% per year) and Poland (+9.0% per year).

In 2022, the average plastic reservoir import price amounted to $X per ton, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 24%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the price for France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
