Italy (X tons), Poland (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of polyethylene in primary forms exports from Germany, with a combined 33% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, China, the Czech Republic, Austria, the UK, Hungary, Russia and Turkey, which together accounted for a further 40%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Hungary (with a CAGR of +4.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Italy ($X), Poland ($X) and France ($X) were the largest markets for polyethylene in primary forms exported from Germany worldwide, together accounting for 32% of total exports. Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, China, the UK, the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Russia and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 40%.
The Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +3.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 4.9%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, polyethylene in primary forms imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Belgium (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of polyethylene in primary forms imports to Germany, with a combined 63% share of total imports. Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Italy, Hungary, Sweden, Spain, Slovakia, the UK and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Slovakia (with a CAGR of +6.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Belgium ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and France ($X) were the largest polyethylene in primary forms suppliers to Germany, with a combined 64% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Italy, Hungary, Sweden, Slovakia, Spain, the UK and Saudi Arabia, which together accounted for a further 32%.
Among the main suppliers, Slovakia, with a CAGR of +9.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average polyethylene in primary forms import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 49% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
