The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Belgium (X tons), France (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main suppliers of polystyrene in primary forms imports to Germany, together accounting for 76% of total imports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Sweden, which together accounted for a further 19%.
