In 2022, the German potato harvester market increased by 111% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, consumption enjoyed mild growth. Potato harvester consumption peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In general, total exports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 30%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then fell markedly in the following year.

Russia (X tons), France (X tons) and the UK (X tons) were the main destinations of potato harvester exports from Germany, together accounting for 45% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Poland, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland, Australia, Canada, the Czech Republic and the United States, which together accounted for a further 36%.

In 2022, the average potato harvester export price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -6.4% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 7%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of potato-diggers and potato harvesters, when their volume decreased by -48.4% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, saw a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 149% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

In value terms, potato harvester imports reduced sharply to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 104%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Belgium (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of potato harvester imports to Germany, together accounting for 70% of total imports. These countries were followed by Switzerland, the Czech Republic, France and Italy, which together accounted for a further 28%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of +39.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Belgium ($X) constituted the largest supplier of potato-diggers and potato harvesters to Germany, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Poland, with a 12% share.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 94% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the price for the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+10.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
