Canned Vegetable Market Size in Germany
For the seventh year in a row, the German canned vegetable market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 2.3% to $X in 2022. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports from Germany
In 2022, after three years of decline, there was growth in overseas shipments of canned vegetables, when their volume increased by 1.6% to X tons. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 6.1% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, canned vegetable exports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Austria (X tons), France (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of canned vegetable exports from Germany, with a combined 38% share of total exports. Poland, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Hungary, the UK, Spain and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 44%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +8.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for canned vegetable exported from Germany were Austria ($X), France ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together accounting for 36% of total exports. Poland, Switzerland, Denmark, Italy, the Czech Republic, Belgium, the UK, Spain, Hungary and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 43%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Hungary, with a CAGR of +10.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average canned vegetable export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -7.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 14%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Germany
In 2022, imports of canned vegetables into Germany rose modestly to X tons, increasing by 4.4% on 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 5.1%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, canned vegetable imports totaled $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 8.9% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Italy (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of canned vegetable imports to Germany, together comprising 60% of total imports. Spain, Hungary, Belgium, Turkey, China, Poland and Greece lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +17.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest canned vegetable suppliers to Germany were Italy ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and France ($X), together accounting for 51% of total imports. Spain, Hungary, Turkey, Greece, Poland, China and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 39%.

The average canned vegetable import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -2.7% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 9% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Greece ($X per ton), while the price for Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
