The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 23%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

The United Arab Emirates (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles exports from Germany, together comprising 22% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +14.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Italy ($X), Austria ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) were the largest markets for refractory bricks, blocks and tiles exported from Germany worldwide, with a combined 20% share of total exports.
The United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +17.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, approx. X tons of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles were imported into Germany; surging by 21% on 2020. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

The Czech Republic (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles imports to Germany, together accounting for 44% of total imports. Austria, France, China, Spain, Slovakia, the UK, Turkey and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 46%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Slovakia (with a CAGR of +12.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, the import price recorded a slight shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 14% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the price for the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
