Safety Glass Market Size in Germany

In 2022, the German safety glass market increased by 10% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Safety glass consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 11%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X square meters in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, safety glass exports fell to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 16%. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

France (X square meters), the Netherlands (X square meters) and Switzerland (X square meters) were the main destinations of safety glass exports from Germany, together comprising 39% of total exports. These countries were followed by Belgium, Austria, the UK, Italy, Poland, Denmark, Hungary, Spain, the Czech Republic and Sweden, which together accounted for a further 51%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +14.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

As a result, imports attained the peak of X square meters. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
