For the fifth year in a row, Germany recorded decline in shipments abroad of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal, which decreased by -13.2% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports showed a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 7.8% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, exports of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 9.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Denmark (X tons), Italy (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main destinations of exports of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal from Germany, with a combined 39% share of total exports. France, Poland, Austria, Belgium, the UK, Ireland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Romania and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 47%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +6.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal exported from Germany were Denmark ($X), France ($X) and Italy ($X), together accounting for 34% of total exports. The Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Austria, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Romania, the UK, Ireland and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 50%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Romania, with a CAGR of +10.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average export price for salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal stood at $X per ton in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 8.5%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell modestly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Germany
In 2022, imports of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal into Germany expanded notably to X tons, picking up by 6.3% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, imports of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal expanded to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 7.6%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Brazil (X tons) constituted the largest salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal supplier to Germany, accounting for a 39% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal from Brazil exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Thailand (X tons), threefold. Spain (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Brazil stood at +6.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+5.4% per year) and Spain (-0.2% per year).
In value terms, the largest salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal suppliers to Germany were Italy ($X), Spain ($X) and Brazil ($X), together accounting for 66% of total imports. Austria, Thailand, the Netherlands and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.
Austria, with a CAGR of +7.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average import price for salted, dried or smoked meat, and offal amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -3.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
