Silica Sand Market Size in Germany

The German silica sand market contracted to $X in 2022, dropping by -6.6% against the previous year. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, silica sand exports shrank to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 30% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then dropped in the following year.

Overall, total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +38.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then shrank modestly in the following year.

In value terms, silica sand imports stood at $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 21% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, the Netherlands (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of silica sand to Germany, accounting for a 44% share of total imports. Moreover, silica sand imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), twofold. Poland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average import price increased by 32%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while the price for France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
