In 2021, overseas shipments of sulphides of non-metals and commercial phosphorus trisulphide were finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. In general, total exports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sulphides of non-metals exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 46%. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Belgium (X tons) was the main destination for sulphides of non-metals exports from Germany, accounting for a 30% share of total exports. Moreover, sulphides of non-metals exports to Belgium exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Austria (X tons), threefold. France (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Belgium amounted to +13.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Austria (+52.5% per year) and France (+20.9% per year).
In value terms, Belgium ($X) remains the key foreign market for sulphides of non-metals and commercial phosphorus trisulphide exports from Germany, comprising 40% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Austria, with a 7.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Belgium totaled +14.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+22.9% per year) and Austria (+55.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average sulphides of non-metals export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 3.1% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.2%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 42%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Switzerland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+22.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Germany
In 2021, overseas purchases of sulphides of non-metals and commercial phosphorus trisulphide increased by 5.9% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after five years of decline. In general, imports, however, showed a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sulphides of non-metals imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a perceptible reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, France (X tons) constituted the largest sulphides of non-metals supplier to Germany, with a 82% share of total imports. Moreover, sulphides of non-metals imports from France exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Russia (X tons), sixfold. Italy (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from France totaled +4.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (-10.6% per year) and Italy (-3.0% per year).
In value terms, France ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sulphides of non-metals and commercial phosphorus trisulphide to Germany, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from France totaled +3.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (-10.6% per year) and Italy (-2.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average sulphides of non-metals import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 3.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a slight setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 11%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+38.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
