The German sulphur market dropped markedly to $X in 2022, which is down by -22.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a drastic downturn. Sulphur consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sulphur exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The Netherlands (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of sulphur exports from Germany, with a combined 85% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +14.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, the largest markets for sulphur exported from Germany were Belgium ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and France ($X), with a combined 83% share of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +17.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average sulphur export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 54% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Israel (+13.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Germany
In 2022, imports of sulphur into Germany reduced to X tons, with a decrease of -7.7% on the previous year. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +9.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 43% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sulphur imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +114.2% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Poland (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) were the main suppliers of sulphur imports to Germany, with a combined 61% share of total imports. The Czech Republic, Lithuania, Switzerland, Norway and France lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Lithuania (with a CAGR of +49.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sulphur to Germany, comprising 32% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Poland amounted to +17.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (-8.1% per year) and the Netherlands (+19.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average sulphur import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 80% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Switzerland (+29.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
