In 2022, purchases abroad of tyres for buses or lorries increased by 7.9% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 22%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, truck and bus tyre imports rose markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 25%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Slovakia (X units), China (X units) and Turkey (X units) were the main suppliers of truck and bus tyre imports to Germany, together comprising 31% of total imports. The Czech Republic, Thailand, the United States, Romania, Poland, Luxembourg, Spain, France, Hungary and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 51%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the United States (with a CAGR of +38.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest truck and bus tyre suppliers to Germany were Slovakia ($X), Turkey ($X) and Luxembourg ($X), together accounting for 30% of total imports. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average import price increased by 8.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
