Finland (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main destinations of tomato exports from Germany, together comprising 50% of total exports. Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of tomatoes, when their volume decreased by -16.2% to X tons. Overall, imports showed a mild downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 5.9%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, tomato imports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) were the main suppliers of tomato imports to Germany, with a combined 81% share of total imports. Belgium, France, Italy and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 16%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +12.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
