Turkey Meat Market Size in Germany

For the fourth year in a row, the German turkey meat market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -0.6% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, turkey meat production reduced modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 11%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, the average yield of turkey meat in Germany stood at X kg per head, picking up by 1.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the yield continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 4.5% against the previous year. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 11%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, turkey meat exports stood at $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 17%. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The Netherlands (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main destinations of turkey meat exports from Germany, with a combined 46% share of total exports. France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Benin, Ireland, Switzerland, Denmark and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 47%.

The average turkey meat export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 16% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Germany

In 2022, supplies from abroad of turkey meat decreased by -11.4% to X tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports showed a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 4.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, turkey meat imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a pronounced descent. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of turkey meat to Germany, with a 58% share of total imports. Moreover, turkey meat imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Austria (X tons), with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Poland amounted to +2.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+11.0% per year) and Austria (-1.8% per year).

In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of turkey meat to Germany, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Austria ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with a 6.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Poland amounted to +2.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Austria (-1.7% per year) and France (+3.5% per year).

In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern.
