In value terms, non-mineral or non-aerated water exports reduced to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 16%. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
The Netherlands (X litres), Switzerland (X litres) and France (X litres) were the main destinations of non-mineral or non-aerated water exports from Germany, with a combined 61% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Austria, Denmark, Spain, Slovakia, Luxembourg, Portugal, Poland, the United States and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 30%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Slovakia (with a CAGR of +87.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the key foreign market for non-mineral or non-aerated waters exports from Germany, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by the United States, with a 3.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the Netherlands was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+22.4% per year) and the United States (+32.2% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per thousand litres), while the average price for exports to Switzerland ($X per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Germany
For the fourth consecutive year, Germany recorded decline in purchases abroad of non-mineral or non-aerated waters, which decreased by -5.8% to X litres in 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 43%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X litres. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-mineral or non-aerated water imports dropped slightly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 40%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The Czech Republic (X litres), Turkey (X litres) and Spain (X litres) were the main suppliers of non-mineral or non-aerated water imports to Germany, together accounting for 81% of total imports. Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Poland and France lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 15%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +80.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Turkey ($X), Austria ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X) constituted the largest non-mineral or non-aerated water suppliers to Germany, with a combined 62% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Poland and France, which together accounted for a further 30%.
Belgium, with a CAGR of +68.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average non-mineral or non-aerated water import price stood at $X per litre in 2021, flattening at the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 13% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per litre in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per litre), while the price for the Czech Republic (less than $X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
