The exports peaked at X cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, exports of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates reached $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Austria (X cubic meters), Belgium (X cubic meters) and Denmark (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of exports of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates from Germany, with a combined 51% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Denmark (with a CAGR of +6.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Italy ($X), Austria ($X) and Denmark ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates exported from Germany worldwide, with a combined 48% share of total exports.

Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 21%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per cubic meter. From 2014 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Germany
In 2021, purchases abroad of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates was finally on the rise to reach X cubic meters for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports peaked at X cubic meters in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, imports of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a modest increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The Netherlands (X cubic meters), Poland (X cubic meters) and the Czech Republic (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of imports of wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates to Germany, together accounting for 58% of total imports. Denmark, Belgium, Russia, France, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland and Latvia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +13.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates suppliers to Germany were Poland ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Denmark ($X), with a combined 48% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Belgium, the Czech Republic, Russia, Austria, France, Switzerland, Sweden and Latvia, which together accounted for a further 33%.
Russia, with a CAGR of +12.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average import price for wood chips, parts, residues, pellets and other agglomerates amounted to $X per cubic meter, picking up by 3% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per cubic meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($X per cubic meter), while the price for the Netherlands (less than $X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Switzerland (+27.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
