After two years of decline, the German zirconium market increased by 58% to $X in 2022. In general, consumption saw significant growth. Zirconium consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Over the period under review, imports posted perceptible growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 95%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, zirconium imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a moderate expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 81% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The United States (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of zirconium imports to Germany, together accounting for 80% of total imports. Spain, France and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.
