In 2021, the Ghanian metal bath market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 418% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, metal bath imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed a measured expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 239%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

China (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main suppliers of metal bath imports to Ghana, with a combined 50% share of total imports. These countries were followed by India, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, the UK, Israel, Germany, South Africa and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 21%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by South Africa (with a CAGR of +13.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average metal bath import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 25% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, metal bath import price increased by +90.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 52%.
