Over the period under review, imports, however, showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 2,375%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, binocular imports fell dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 1,332%. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the Netherlands (X units) constituted the largest binocular supplier to Ghana, accounting for a 86% share of total imports. Moreover, binocular imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, South Africa (X units), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Canada (X units), with a 1.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the Netherlands totaled +33.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (+30.3% per year) and Canada (+45.4% per year).
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Canada ($X) and China ($X) were the largest binocular suppliers to Ghana, with a combined 88% share of total imports.
In terms of the main suppliers, Canada, with a CAGR of +48.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
