After four years of growth, the Ghanian non-wheat cereal pellets market decreased by -3% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a temperate expansion. Non-wheat cereal pellets consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

After two years of decline, shipments abroad of cereal pellets (excluding wheat) increased by 16% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 511%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-wheat cereal pellets exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant decline. In general, imports, however, showed a dramatic setback. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, South Africa (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of non-wheat cereal pellets to Ghana, with a 81% share of total imports. Moreover, non-wheat cereal pellets imports from South Africa exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X kg), fourfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from South Africa stood at -22.4%.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cereal pellets (excluding wheat) to Ghana, comprising 84% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with a 16% share of total imports.

The average non-wheat cereal pellets import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 109% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
