Common Pottery Market Size in Ghana

The Ghanian common pottery market skyrocketed to $X in 2022, picking up by 28% against the previous year. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 163% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, common pottery exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 59%. Burkina Faso (X tons) was the main destination for common pottery exports from Ghana, accounting for a 45% share of total exports. Moreover, common pottery exports to Burkina Faso exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the UK (X tons), with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Burkina Faso totaled +43.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+1.2% per year) and the UK (-5.8% per year).

In value terms, Burkina Faso ($X) remains the key foreign market for common pottery exports from Ghana, comprising 35% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Benin ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by the United States, with a 6.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Burkina Faso totaled +32.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Benin (+11.9% per year) and the United States (-13.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average common pottery export price amounted to $X per ton, stabilizing at the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 216% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Benin ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Ghana

In 2022, the amount of common pottery imported into Ghana skyrocketed to X tons, picking up by 46% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a abrupt slump. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, common pottery imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 62%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest common pottery supplier to Ghana, with a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, common pottery imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the UK (X tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Brazil (X tons), with a 7.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to -13.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the UK (+6.5% per year) and Brazil (+24.0% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of common pottery to Ghana, comprising 34% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the UK ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with an 8.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China stood at -14.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the UK (+3.7% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+21.7% per year).

In 2022, the average common pottery import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -18.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, enjoyed a notable expansion. From 2016 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
