Desktop Computer Market Size in Ghana

After two years of growth, the Ghanian desktop computer market decreased by -1.1% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Desktop computer consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then declined modestly in the following year.

In general, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 4,640%. The exports peaked at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, desktop computer exports fell notably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 3,210% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Australia (X units) was the main destination for desktop computer exports from Ghana, accounting for a 66% share of total exports. Moreover, desktop computer exports to Australia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (X units), threefold. Angola (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Australia was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+44.2% per year) and Angola (+13.0% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for desktop computer exported from Ghana were Australia ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and France ($X), together accounting for 86% of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +48.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average desktop computer export price amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -38.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 107%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Angola ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 62% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, desktop computer imports amounted to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +73.5% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 69%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X units) constituted the largest desktop computer supplier to Ghana, accounting for a 29% share of total imports. Moreover, desktop computer imports from the United Arab Emirates exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Austria (X units), with a 7.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United Arab Emirates amounted to +2.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+13.3% per year) and Austria (+26.4% per year).

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the largest supplier of desktop computers to Ghana, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with an 8.7% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 5.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United Arab Emirates stood at +17.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+35.9% per year) and the Netherlands (+7.4% per year).

In 2021, the average desktop computer import price amounted to $X per unit, growing by 16% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 52%. The import price peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the price for Austria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
