After two years of decline, the Ghanian dog and cat food market increased by 11% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a abrupt descent. Dog and cat food consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

In 2021, approx. X tons of dog and cat food were imported into Ghana; dropping by -40% on the year before. In general, imports, however, posted a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then declined notably in the following year.

In value terms, dog and cat food imports reduced dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate perceptible growth.
