Exports from Ghana
LCDs and plasmas exports from Ghana fell to X units in 2022, reducing by -11.8% compared with 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 46% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, LCDs and plasmas exports shrank markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 171% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.
Exports by Country
The UK (X units), South Africa (X units) and Togo (X units) were the main destinations of LCDs and plasmas exports from Ghana, together comprising 47% of total exports. Moreover, LCDs and plasmas exports in the UK exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest exporter, South Africa, twofold.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the UK (with a CAGR of +14.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the UK ($X), the United States ($X) and South Africa ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for LCDs and plasmas exported from Ghana worldwide, with a combined 85% share of total exports. Belgium, Nigeria, Germany, Tanzania, Togo, Ethiopia and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.
Belgium, with a CAGR of +79.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average LCDs and plasmas export price amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -8.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 127%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+98.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Ghana
In 2022, overseas purchases of flat panel video monitor, lcd or plasma decreased by -17.5% to X units for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, showed slight growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 118% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, LCDs and plasmas imports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 131% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest LCDs and plasmas supplier to Ghana, with a 43% share of total imports. Moreover, LCDs and plasmas imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Singapore (X units), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Vietnam (X units), with an 8.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +19.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Singapore (+24.0% per year) and Vietnam (+76.2% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of flat panel video monitor, lcd or plasma to Ghana, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +26.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+92.8% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+24.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average LCDs and plasmas import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, waning by -10.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, enjoyed moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 104% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per unit), while the price for Finland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+19.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
