Nigeria (X tons) was the main destination for fructose exports from Ghana, with a 69% share of total exports. Moreover, fructose exports to Nigeria exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Burkina Faso (X tons), twofold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Nigeria stood at -61.8%.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for fructose and fructose syrup exports from Ghana, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Burkina Faso ($X), with a 10% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Nigeria amounted to -29.6%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average fructose export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 16% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 170%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports into Ghana
In 2021, the amount of fructose and fructose syrup imported into Ghana soared to X tons, jumping by 82% compared with the year before. In general, imports continue to indicate resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 121%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, fructose imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 112%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Turkey (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of fructose to Ghana, with a 84% share of total imports. Moreover, fructose imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Russia (X tons), with a 3.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Turkey stood at +32.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-1.7% per year) and Russia (0.0% per year).
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of fructose and fructose syrup to Ghana, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Russia, with a 4.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Turkey amounted to +27.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+1.9% per year) and Russia (0.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average fructose import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -4.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 a decrease of -0.3%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
