Overall, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 265% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, lead-acid accumulators (excluding starter batteries) imports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 343% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X units) was the main supplier of lead-acid accumulators (excluding starter batteries) to Ghana, with a 94% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand (X units), with a 2.4% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +64.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (-8.5% per year) and India (-18.8% per year).
