Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 378%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, maltodextrine exports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 182%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Nigeria (X tons) was the main destination for maltodextrine exports from Ghana, accounting for a 69% share of total exports. Moreover, maltodextrine exports to Nigeria exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Burkina Faso (X kg), twofold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Nigeria stood at +22.9%.
In value terms, Nigeria ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for maltodextrine and maltodextine syrup exports from Ghana, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Burkina Faso ($X), with a 10% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Nigeria totaled +28.1%.
Export Prices by Country
The average maltodextrine export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 116% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 206%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Burkina Faso amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Burkina Faso (+8.2%).
Maltodextrine Imports
Imports into Ghana
After three years of growth, overseas purchases of maltodextrine and maltodextine syrup decreased by -34.8% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 715%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then declined sharply in the following year.
In value terms, maltodextrine imports reduced slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 330% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), Russia (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of maltodextrine imports to Ghana, with a combined 71% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Belgium, Turkey, India and the UK, which together accounted for a further 11%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +193.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of maltodextrine and maltodextine syrup to Ghana, comprising 30% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by France, with an 8.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to +29.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (0.0% per year) and France (+32.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average maltodextrine import price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a perceptible slump. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (-0.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
