Motor Grader Market Size in Ghana

After three years of growth, the Ghanian motor grader market decreased by -6.6% to $X in 2022. In general, consumption, however, saw a buoyant increase. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, overseas shipments of motor graders and levellers increased by 50% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 80%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, motor grader exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a sharp slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 238%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Cote d'Ivoire (X units), Togo (X units) and South Africa (X units) were the main destinations of motor grader exports from Ghana, together comprising 50% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (with a CAGR of 0.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the key foreign market for motor graders and levellers exports from Ghana, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Togo ($X), with a 7.1% share of total exports. It was followed by Zimbabwe, with a 3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to South Africa totaled -7.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Togo (-21.5% per year) and Zimbabwe (0.0% per year).

The average motor grader export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 32% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a significant contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 153%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Burkina Faso ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Africa (-7.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Ghana

After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of motor graders and levellers decreased by -7.6% to X units in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 255%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, motor grader imports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a tangible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 353%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The United States (X units), China (X units) and Japan (X units) were the main suppliers of motor grader imports to Ghana, together accounting for 72% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, Burkina Faso, Brazil, Belgium and Switzerland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 15%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +25.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X), China ($X) and Japan ($X) were the largest motor grader suppliers to Ghana, with a combined 74% share of total imports. Brazil, Burkina Faso, Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates and Switzerland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 16%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Burkina Faso, with a CAGR of +22.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average motor grader import price amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 3.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 71% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
