Office Supply Market Size in Ghana

After two years of growth, the Ghanian office supply market decreased by -12.7% to $X in 2022. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Office supply consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Ghana

In 2022, office supply exports from Ghana skyrocketed to X kg, increasing by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, faced a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 294% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, office supply exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, faced a sharp contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 180%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Togo (X kg) was the main destination for office supply exports from Ghana, accounting for a 44% share of total exports. Moreover, office supply exports to Togo exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Burkina Faso (X kg), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Angola (X kg), with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Togo stood at +2.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Burkina Faso (-25.6% per year) and Angola (+30.4% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for office supply exported from Ghana were Togo ($X), Angola ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a combined 48% share of total exports. The Netherlands, Burkina Faso, Niger and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.

The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +70.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average office supply export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 3.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, faced a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+24.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Ghana

In 2022, approx. X tons of office or school supplies of plastics were imported into Ghana; with a decrease of -13.8% on 2021. Overall, imports recorded a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 66%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, office supply imports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 155%. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest office supply supplier to Ghana, accounting for a 73% share of total imports. Moreover, office supply imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), fivefold. Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to -4.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+12.3% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (+48.4% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of office or school supplies of plastics to Ghana, comprising 77% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with an 8.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a 2.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to +7.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+14.3% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (+48.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average office supply import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 2.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price enjoyed a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 100% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+15.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
