Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then fell sharply in the following year.

In value terms, respiration apparatus exports dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 1,336%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports by Country

Zambia (X kg) was the main destination for respiration apparatus exports from Ghana, accounting for a 75% share of total exports. Moreover, respiration apparatus exports to Zambia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Congo (X kg), sixfold. Nigeria (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.7% share.

In value terms, Zambia ($X) remains the key foreign market for respiration apparatus exports from Ghana, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Congo ($X), with an 8.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Nigeria, with a 5.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Zambia stood at -20.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Congo (0.0% per year) and Nigeria (+28.5% per year).

In 2021, the average respiration apparatus export price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 66%. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 463% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, respiration apparatus imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 340% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest respiration apparatus supplier to Ghana, with a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, respiration apparatus imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the Netherlands (X tons), with a 5.5% share.

The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
