From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, paper dishes and cups exports declined remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 476%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) was the main destination for paper dishes and cups exports from Ghana, with a 72% share of total exports. Moreover, paper dishes and cups exports to Cote d'Ivoire exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Niger (X tons), fourfold. Burkina Faso (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Cote d'Ivoire totaled +28.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Niger (+75.5% per year) and Burkina Faso (+24.6% per year).

In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) remains the key foreign market for paper trays, dishes, plates and cups exports from Ghana, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Niger ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Mali, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Cote d'Ivoire was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Niger (+38.9% per year) and Mali (+40.0% per year).

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 250% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, paper dishes and cups imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 344%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
