The UK (X kg) was the main destination for green peas exports from Ghana, accounting for a 56% share of total exports. Moreover, green peas exports to the UK exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X kg), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Ireland (X kg), with an 11% share.

In value terms, the UK ($X), Germany ($X) and Switzerland ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for green peas exported from Ghana worldwide, together comprising 84% of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Germany, with a CAGR of +19.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average green peas export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -4.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a mild slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average export price increased by 57% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, overseas purchases of peas (green) were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports saw mild growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 721%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, green peas imports fell to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 513% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Morocco (X tons) constituted the largest green peas supplier to Ghana, with a 85% share of total imports. Moreover, green peas imports from Morocco exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tons), tenfold. The UK (X kg) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Morocco totaled +45.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+9.6% per year) and the UK (-13.5% per year).
In value terms, Morocco ($X) constituted the largest supplier of peas (green) to Ghana, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with a 1.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Morocco amounted to +41.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+10.4% per year) and the UK (-21.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average green peas import price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -12.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 31% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Canada ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+15.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
