Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 755%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X square meters. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, photographic film exports shrank significantly to $X in 2021. In general, exports faced a dramatic curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 106%. The exports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Cote d'Ivoire (X square meters), Burkina Faso (X square meters) and Mali (X square meters) were the main destinations of photographic film exports from Ghana, with a combined 94% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Mali (with a CAGR of +24.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, Mali ($X) remains the key foreign market for photographic plates and film, photographic paper, paperboard and textiles and instant print film, sensitized, unexposed exports from Ghana, comprising 67% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Burkina Faso ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with an 11% share.

Imports into Ghana
In 2021, the amount of photographic plates and film, photographic paper, paperboard and textiles and instant print film, sensitized, unexposed imported into Ghana soared to X square meters, with an increase of 55% on the year before. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible decrease. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X square meters in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, photographic film imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a noticeable descent. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X square meters) constituted the largest supplier of photographic film to Ghana, with a 34% share of total imports. Moreover, photographic film imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Lebanon (X square meters), threefold. Germany (X square meters) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled +11.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Lebanon (+33.1% per year) and Germany (-5.0% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of photographic plates and film, photographic paper, paperboard and textiles and instant print film, sensitized, unexposed to Ghana, comprising 24% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with an 8.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 7.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled +18.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-8.8% per year) and Belgium (-20.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average photographic film import price stood at $X per square meter in 2021, jumping by 29% against the previous year. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per square meter), while the price for Lebanon ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
