Razor Market Size in Ghana

The Ghanian razor market expanded notably to $X in 2021, with an increase of 6.7% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate mild growth. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, shipments abroad of razors increased by 64% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a dramatic decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 76% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Benin stood at -18.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Togo (-43.4% per year) and Mali (-35.8% per year).

In value terms, Benin ($X), Togo ($X) and Mali ($X) constituted the largest markets for razor exported from Ghana worldwide, with a combined 95% share of total exports.

Mali, with a CAGR of -8.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average razor export price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 26% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a perceptible contraction. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Togo ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Benin ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+53.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Ghana

In 2021, razor imports into Ghana shrank to X tons, declining by -13.3% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports recorded a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 424%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, razor imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 272% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Egypt (X tons), China (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of razor imports to Ghana, with a combined 62% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +19.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Egypt ($X) constituted the largest supplier of razors to Ghana, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with an 8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Egypt amounted to +50.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (-1.9% per year) and China (+41.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average razor import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 39% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average import price increased by 91%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+52.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
